New Home Screen

The latest nightly builds of Scrite feature a new “Home Screen” dialog box, which is shown right after the app is launched. This one screen packs so many options yet isn’t overwhelming to the user. We believe options are easier to find here.

For first-time users of Scrite, the screen displays all templates in one column and screenplays from Scriptalay in another. Along the bottom are buttons to open Scrite documents from the disk.

  • Open lets you open a Scrite document stored in your disk(s)
  • Recent Files allows you to open a list of recently opened files, so you can select a file to open from that.
  • Recover lets you recover unsaved Scrite documents from the vault.
  • Import lets you import files from Final Draft, HTML, and Fountain formats into Scrite.

When you hover the mouse cursor over any of these options, additional information about that option is shown on the banner above.

Clicking on one of the options in the “New File” or “Scriptalay” columns will import and open them in Scrite.

Once you create one or more screenplays in Scrite and save them to your disk, they will automatically be captured into recent files and listed on the first page of the home screen.

Because of this, it becomes incredibly easy to find all your frequently used files. In this view, you will notice that Scriptalay has become an option on the bottom left. Clicking on Scriptalay takes you to another page where scripts from our online library are listed. We are working towards bundling access to more screenplays into Scriptalay, even PDF-only screenplays.

The new Home Screen will be part of the next public beta. If you want to take this new feature for a test drive right away, then download the latest nightly build right away.
