After almost five years of development and improvement, Scrite is officially emerging from beta with the release of version 1.0. While this is a major milestone, for us, it’s only the start.
What began as an experiment in 2020 has evolved into a tool used by nearly 40,000 writers. Scrite has never been just a screenwriting app developed in isolation—it has been a collaborative journey, shaped by a dedicated community of writers and filmmakers.
From the start, we aimed to make professional screenwriting accessible, with features like Indian language support for easy scriptwriting in local languages. With feedback from our community, we’ve added tools like the Structure Tab, Notebook Forms, Character Notes, and Statistics Report to help writers craft their stories with precision.

What will be new in version 1.0?
The features we wanted to introduce in 1.0 have already been introduced in the 0.9 public beta series.
- Rich text notes
- Featured photos on index cards
- New forms in Notebook
- Bold-italics-underline formatting in screenplay text
- New Home Screen
As such, version 1.0 will not introduce any new features, it will only have few bug fixes and stability improvements.
Version 1.0 and beyond will no longer be “beta,” but it’s not the final version. Scrite will continue to evolve, with new features and improvements based on feedback from Discord and email.
In the coming weeks, we will be updating the user manual and video tutorial which reflects the latest UI for better navigation.
What to expect in future updates
We have an exciting roadmap ahead with features like:
- Production Breakdown Tools to support the filmmaking process.
- Dark Mode for a more comfortable writing experience.
- Real-Time Collaboration to bring team writing to life.
- A Mobile Version making Scrite more accessible than ever.
Although we can’t commit to specific timelines yet, these features are actively being developed, and we’ll share updates as they become available.
Subscription Plans
With this version, Scrite is transitioning to a paid subscription to support its development.
Scrite now offers a 30-day free trial for all new and existing beta users, granting full access to all features before subscribing. After installing version 1.0, you can activate your free 30-day trial.
During or towards the end of your free trial, you can choose any available subscription plan. To explore plans tailored for you, click the icon in the top right of the Scrite window to open your user profile and go to the “Subscriptions” tab.
The prices and plans listed may vary based on your location and whether you were a public beta user.
All subscriptions are covered under the terms of use and cancellation policy as described in the links below:
Payment Methods
We’ve partnered with RazorPay to process all payments. Currently, RazorPay supports payments via VISA and MasterCard credit and debit cards, both within India and internationally. Indian subscribers can also pay via UPI and NetBanking with select banks. In the coming weeks to months, we plan to add support for more banks and payment methods.
Impact on Current Public Beta Users
All public beta versions will continue to work until January 31, 2025, after which the activation server will be turned off. Users will no longer be able to request activation codes, and most beta apps will stop working. We encourage all users to update to the latest version of Scrite available on our website.
Bug Fixes
Language automatically changes in act names
While moving act breaks on the scene list panel or timeline, sometimes the language of the text used to describe the act name automatically changes. This issue has now been fixed.
Unable to bring back property editor dock in structure canvas
Upon closing the property editor dock in structure canvas by clicking on the close button in the dock window title bar, it was impossible to bring back the annotation property editor. This issue has now been fixed.
New keyboard shortcuts for split & merge scenes
Split and merge scenes now have new keyboard shortcuts:
- Ctrl+Shift+Enter / Cmd+Shift+Return for Split Scene
- Ctrl+Shift+Backspace / Cmd+Shift+Delete for Merge Scene
This was done to allow Ctrl+Backspace / Cmd+Delete to be mapped against delete preceding word as is the case with any text editor.
Adding image to title page moves the screen directly to second or third scene.
The screen now stays put on the title page. This issue was reported by a user on Discord.
Synopsis text on index card getting clipped
When an index card on the structure canvas has a long synopsis text, it would get clipped upon receiving focus. This issue has now been fixed.
