Scrite 1.0: A New Chapter Begins on Jan 15, 2025

What started in 2020 as an experiment has grown into a tool embraced by close to 40000 writers. Scrite has always been more than just a screenwriting app built in isolation—it’s been a collaborative journey shaped by a passionate community of writers and filmmakers.

From its earliest days, we set out to make professional screenwriting accessible, starting with features like native Indian language support that made it easy for writers in India to seamlessly write industry-formatted scripts in their local language. Over time, and thanks to invaluable community feedback, we’ve introduced key features like the Structure Tab, Script Library, and Statistics Report, each designed to help writers craft their stories with precision and ease.

Moving Out of Beta: Why Now?

After nearly five years of refinement and growth, Scrite is officially stepping out of beta with the launch of version 1.0. This marks a significant milestone, but for us, it’s just the beginning. We have an exciting roadmap ahead with features like:

  • Production Breakdown Tools to support the filmmaking process.
  • Dark Mode for a more comfortable writing experience.
  • Real-Time Collaboration to bring team writing to life.
  • A Mobile Version making Scrite more accessible than ever.

While we can’t commit to specific timelines just yet, these features are actively in development, and we’ll share updates as they’re ready.

What will be new in version 1.0?

The features we wanted to introduce in 1.0 have already been introduced in the 0.9 public beta series.

As such, version 1.0 will not introduce any new features, it will only have few bug fixes and stability improvements.

While we are no longer going to call the version that will be released on 15th January 2025 as “beta”, we are by no means claiming that it will be the final version of Scrite. As with any software product, Scrite will continue to be improved and optimised. We will continue to add new features as stated above. We will continue to listen to feedback on Discord, and over email and work towards making it better for everybody.

The Move to a Paid Model

We’ve long communicated that Scrite would eventually transition to a paid subscription model to sustain its development and support. This was not a decision we made lightly. Subscriptions often face criticism for being prohibitively expensive, especially for new writers, but our goal has always been to provide a professional-grade tool that remains affordable for everyone. With that spirit in mind, you can get an annual subscription for ₹1999 / $29 making Scrite the most affordable professional screenwriting solution.

To our beta users, thank you for your early belief in Scrite. As a token of our gratitude, you’ll receive exclusive pricing as part of our launch offer. For the first year, your subscription is priced at ₹999 / $15 for the first year, and ₹1499 / $21 for every year thereafter.

Existing beta users will also have the option of subscribing to a three year long term plan, at a 25% discounted price of ₹2999 / $45.

For all new users and existing beta users, Scrite now comes with a 30-day free trial, giving you full access to all features before committing to a subscription.

All subscriptions are covered under the terms of use and cancellation policy as described in the links below:

Payment Method

We have signed up with RazorPay to process all payments. As of writing, RazorPay allows payments to be made via VISA and MasterCard credit and debit cards both within India and outside. Additionally, Indian subscribers can pay via UPI and NetBanking with select few banks. Over the course of few weeks to months, we should be able to add support for more banks and payment methods.

Built by Writers, for Writers

Scrite is built by a team of technologists and filmmakers, combining technical expertise with firsthand storytelling experience. But the real magic lies in the support and feedback of our incredible community. From insightful suggestions on Discord to in-depth conversations with filmmakers, your input has shaped Scrite into what it is today—and will continue to guide its future.

We’re excited for you to explore Scrite 1.0 and take advantage of everything the app has to offer. Whether you’re a seasoned screenwriter or just starting, Scrite is here to make your journey seamless and inspiring.
